Hi everyone, in this article, I want to share my experience of one of the most incredible places I have ever seen, Friars Point. By the way, this is part of the trip I took from London to Cardiff To visit my friend. Remember to check that too. Let’s get into the journey of Friars Point.
We took the train from Cardiff Queen Street Station to Berry Island; it was a busy Saturday as it was a weekend, and although there was a lot of excitement among everyone, the train journey was really, really enjoyable. The ride itself was short, about 30 minutes, but offered lovely views of the Wales countryside as we passed through quaint towns and green fields. The fresh sea breeze hit as soon as I stepped off the train. The shore wasn’t far away.
Barry Island Beach
Whitmore Bay, Barry Island’s main beach. This beach is well-known for its excellent golden sand and is particularly popular with families. The beach was itself well-maintained, making it perfect for a seaside picnic. There were plenty of facilities around, including cafes and traditional seaside shops. It was lively and vibrant. Visitors were enjoying the arcades, ice cream, and local food. The Barry Island Pleasure Park is Situated nearby for anyone looking for some fun rides.
Friars Point
While Barry Island is renowned for its family-friendly beaches and vibrant seaside attractions, Friars Point provides a quieter, more natural experience for those looking to enjoy the island’s rugged beauty and historical charm. Located to the west of Whitmore Bay, the headland is just a short walk from the bustling beach area, and from Barry Island Station, it takes around 10 minutes to pass through the main beachfront before heading towards the quieter, more tranquil headland.
One of the main attractions of Friars Point is its unspoiled natural beauty. As we walked towards the headland, we were greeted with sweeping views of the sea, dramatic cliffs, and rocky shores. We heard that on clear days, we could see across the Bristol Channel to the English Coast. Unfortunately, the time we headed there was cloudy. The headland is lined with wild grasses and flowers, and there were some benches installed to sit back to relax and enjoy the view. Friars Point is an excellent spot for birdwatchers to observe seabirds that thrive along the coast. The peacefulness of the area, combined with the soft sound of waves crashing on the rocks below, makes it an ideal place to unwind and connect with nature.

Things to Consider When Visiting
While Friars Point is easily accessible, there are a few things to keep in mind when planning your visit:
- Please wear comfortable shoes: The paths around Friars Point are generally easy to walk on, but they can be a little rocky in places, so comfy shoes are recommended.
- Weather Considerations: As it’s a coastal area, the weather can be unpredictable, so I’d recommend bringing a jacket, even in the summer months.
- Tides: Check the tide times before exploring the rocky area near the beaches because some places can become inaccessible during high tide.
- Parking: Burry Island can get quite busy, so if you are traveling in your car, then arriving early to secure parking is advisable.
We were in that place for 2-2.5 hours; we didn’t realize how the time had passed. Finally, the overhead clouds came down as rain. We were enjoying the drizzling rain at first, but as the heavy rain started, we were forced to make our way back. On our way back, we noticed some visitors were pitching tents and having a BBQ party.
It’s a great place to escape from your busy life and enjoy a quiet walk with plenty of fresh air.
